Thanksgiving on the rail: older daughter is having dinner with several of her in-laws in attendance. I just don't care much for the bunch... coarse - crude - not overly bright ("gee - it must be easy to drive trains! You don't have to steer!")

Wifey will enjoy younger daughter's new baby - younger daughter will enjoy freedom of movement for a bit - SiL will make himself scarce - the "Croods" will set goals of leaving absolutely no leftovers... so I answered when the RR called.

Had 2 hours worth of switching before we could leave. As advertised, a storm blew in & the cond froze is a$$ off.
Finally hit the main & the freezing rain was building up ice on the windshield. Normally not a problem, but my window heater didn't work. Had to stop 3 times to climb up on the short hood to chisel ice away. After the 3rd time, it was cold enough the freezing rain was snow. Much better & it was a straight shot into the mine.

Van driver wanted to hurry back to Bill so he could go home. Got to see Wyo sideways a couple times, but we made it all right. Got plenty of sleep & waiting for a loaded train now. Shouldn't be too long.

Preppy daughter sent an eMail saying she made me a plate of dinner & that was nice of her. I hope the Croods don't find it. I tried to call, but they must all have shut their phones off. I would have, too.

So I monkeyed around on the interwebs a bit. Cabelas "big" sale today didn't amount to much. Really didn't see anything other than a refurb iPod for 7 y/o granddaughter.

Well, boredom & wifi are not a good mixture. Got this Dutch carbine from gunborker. Why? Well, I have everything I need to make 6,5x53R ammo! One excuse is as good as another, I suppose.

I will get a train in a bit & have all day tomorrow off. Drive by the marts & scoff at herd shopping mentality.

In the end, I am thankful for many, many things. Heck, life ain't so bad! SW

The trip didn't end too badly. Went back out to N Antelope for a loaded train. Which wasn't loaded. Sat around 2 hours for that. Got on & noticed the pushers weren't loading. ( generating power) Not good.

Called the mechanics and... "yeah, the main alternator is shot. Get the helpers to shove you into the yard & we will add another motor." That would have been a 4 hour delay since the helpers were shoving a BeaNer with serious mechanical issues.

There were two pushers & one still worked so away we went. No guts - no glory!! Made it, too! Due to cold weather, there was a 40 MPH speed restriction so it took quite a while to make it into the yard. We had switching to do & the cond was not looking forward to freezing again.

But the train ahead found a broken rail right in the main switch so the operator saw we had an hour to work & said we should just as well tie the train down & go home.

Worked for me!

On the way home, I went by wally & not many cars in the parking lot. A pretty good crowd at Target, but none o' that for me!

After a nap, I'll order a few things online & call it good. SW
