I watched Rebel Without a Cause last night. The kid with mental issues grabbed a pistol from a dresser drawer for... I'm not sure what. But I watched closely trying to ID the gun. Nickle plated - MoP grips - heel magazine release... No indication what caliber... An early Colt of some sort? Any ideas? SW |

Based on time frame and what I could see of it, likely a star or an astra. Supply of these was quite plentiful in that mid 50's era. We had a star in 32 acp that was very reliable. It actually favored the cone shaped home cast reloads we made for it. That pistol was a lot more powerful than the respect gun writers were giving the 32 acp at the time... Ours had Spanish police markings on it, and it was a medium frame size. Regards Doc Sharptail |

Sounds plausible. I was thinking an early sporting & military Colt, but the sights aren't right for that. SW |

Caught Gunga Din last night - great movie! In the final shoot em up scenes the Brits were using American Krags, though. And the bad guys were banging away with trapdoor Springfields. Not many Martinis to be seen. Well, the studio used what property had on hand. Still a very entertaining movie. There were scenes of Indian Lancers which very much appeared to be the real deal and possibly filmed separately from the movie in India. Very authentic looking kit. SW |
