These were issued at times (mostly in the PTO during WW 2) with clear nylon/plastic grips that were sometimes filled with photographs...
This one's missing the lower screw.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Never saw a 1911 with grips like that, but Lugers with plexiglass grips were fairly common. SW

it was common trench art to make those grips from aircraft windows [wrecks] i dont think you would find them issued with these , the photos were then fitted as were a lot of nudes and such

I got lucky enough to find a set of genuine sambar stag grips with a lot of character on them on eBay for a really decent price a few years ago. Mounted them on my ss Ruger SR1911. It really makes the stag grips pop. :-o

I suspect 99.9% of them were "re-militarized" by armorers when they were tuned in after the various wars.

Therefore, it's highly unlikely you find one that wasn't "liberated" by a GI.

agreed , there were a bunch of those tho , my father was told they would be searched upon returning stateside , he believed them , but then when he got back they were processed out real fast - like they couldnt get rid of them fast enough , he said it was his big regret , not bringing that colt home - he did find a replacement in later years but an earlier vintage WWI colt and he was looking for the M7 holster till he passed in 2000 , i found that a couple years later to keep the set the way he wanted ,

speaking of 1911,

Clark long Heavy built on a Series 70 frame,

Shockey on a pre Series 70 Commercial frame,
has the proprietary mouse trap spring under the barrel
and front weight,
did not come with the extra insert,
however I have access to another Shockey, so I will make one for mine one day using the other as a pattern,

and for grins, since I had the safe open

High Standard 102 Citation, in 22 short

ex AMU, Distinguished and almost Olympian shooters gun (as were the 2 1911's)

almost Olympian,, cause he was supposed to shoot in the 1980 Olympics, and Carter canceled US participation,

this one is a bit of a beater, great bore, lovely trigger, but not cared for well, finish wise
plastic target grips,
mismatched slide to frame numbers as well,
such was target gun life

I had one of those Colt National Match in 38 spl once. IIRC, the chamber left marks on ejected cases like they were threaded. For delayed ejection?

A Colt collector wanted it a lot worse than I did. Turned the profit into Marlins. SW

My two 1911s. Both are accurate and easy to shoot.

I have a T series that I picked up cheap years ago,

then later I got a mint 1958 dated one, or at least that was the date on the sales receipt,
I have a box of ammo that came with it with 13 rounds missing,

and I have a Enfield rebuild one that was FTR'ed on my birthyear, it is an Inglis

Well, it's not a 1911, it my Argentine FM Hi-Power. It's a true Hi-Power because it was manufactured under license from FN.
