We learned not to do that with gulls- the noise! And then they won't leave.... Beach may be worth a walk with a metal detector- just for those little girl things, you understand Regards, Doc Sharptail |

I couldn't stand it and charged metal detector batteries. Went back to the same place and found... a rusty fishing lure. Gosh - who saw that coming? SW |

I used to mess around with a cheap metal detector and found good places for change are lawns at grade schools and Jr. Hi. Also soccer fields where kids sit along the side waiting their turn to play. Bought a better grade detector for a treasure hunting expedition. Five years' research showed where there might be a buried army payroll from 1879 in central Wyo. Myself and my closest friend went out there - it's in a national forest - and the enormity of the project hit me hard. The loot is supposedly buried "near a cave - near a spring". There are multiple caves and springs in the valley which is 8 miles long and roughly 3/4 mile wide. It would take a lifetime to search the place. So all I can report is two places in the canyon where the treasure is not. My friend passed away, and I never went back. SW |

Just stumbled in the door last night late. Left Brussel @ 1330 vs. 1200 as scheduled. DANG near missed my connection in DC, but caught a ride on an airport golf cart. Made my gate... rounded the corner in the jetway to see a flight attendant physically closing the aircraft door! Took a ton of pics and will post in the photography forum later on today. Most prominent take away... the trip was GREAT! Transit time coming and going? Not so much. I'm not skurred to fly - it's just so darn cramped and uncomfortable. On the day we planned a shopping expedition there was a transportation strike. (more money for less work) So that was out. My pals all said the militaria expo in Ciney was morbidly more expensive than last time. Saw stuff I wanted but wasn't willing to pay a 10x premium for it. All I grabbed was a French colonial medal I didn't have and a saber. The saber is being mailed. So for now I'll be pretty much worthless for a few days... more than usual, I mean. Jet lag is kicking my butt severely. Flop Ears was WAY happy to see me - the feeling is mutual. Meanwhile, I'll take her for our usual morning short hike and score deli breakfast. It's great to be back!! SW |
