Reminds me of a tour my wife and I took to Israel in early 1974. I was a medical officer stationed in Izmir, Turkey .

Near Jerico we took a picture of a young Israeli soldier waiting for a bus. She was dressed in a mini skirt uniform and sandals, carrying a shopping bag on one shoulder, and an Uzi on the other. We saw many others both in and out of uniform similarly armed.

One night we had dinner at a seafood resturant in Tiberas on the Sea of Galilee. It was filled with young Israeli soldiers in full combat gear, as fighting was still in progerss up on the Golan heights nearby. At times we could hear the big guns when the winds were right.

That was a great bunch of kids, who opened up and talked to us after finding out we were an American military group on a tour( unoffical, it was a chapel sponsered tour). I do not remember andy m-16 type weapons then , seems as though most had FN types at the time, I guess it makes sense since most of our production was for Vietnam at the time though.

....well welcome to our new home jkingrph... ....enjoy the smell of new carpet and paint-probably wont last long though,you know how that goes-like new car smell... ....I had the opportunity to visit Izmir for a few days when I was in the service.....took the trip from there to Ephesus....ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and it changed my life ....was fortunate to go to a lot of other places similar-I'll never forget it as long as I live...

im with you , this is not an acceptable way of life anywhere in the world , it needs to be changed - before the goodies are given we should demand the need for this be removed ,
