ive not had trout fried - i think i need to try that , ive always had it baked or BBQd , but ive never been disappointed in that so i suspect fried would be equally good ,

Fall run has already started.
Caught this last week at the mouth of Sturgeon Creek on the Assiniboine River.
I lost another that was much bigger.

Also caught another pike a shade over 30".

Went down to Crescent Drive Park today, and we caught 2 decent eaters in the 2-1/2 to 4 lb class. We will have a Walleye supper sometime hopefully this week

Bite has been slow again for the fall run- more a matter of being in the right place at the right time.



I've been getting the very sporadic eater here and there. This one's a L. Winnipeg fish, caught at the mouth of Sturgeon Creek on the Assiniboine R.
I've got enough walleye in the freezer for a fish heavy meal for six.
I actually prefer walleye this size, or a pound bigger for eating. They call them "Eaters" around here

thats more the size we can keep to eat around here - the previous one is generally outside the slot limit here

Caught this at the mouth of Sturgeon creek tonight on the chartreuse 4" walleye grub and 1/8 oz. Cabela's mean-eye jig yet again.
The wide setting on the phone cam makes it look tons bigger than it is- a 3-1/2 lb.

We had a big Walleye supper tonight.
Wife is snoring away behind me- the usual after effects of such healthful food

Still got enough left in the freezer for a big meal for six people.

Starting to transition away from braid- at least for late season walleye. Fish taken was caught on 8 lb. test flouro-carbon. Not as stretchy as monofilament, but not as resilient as braid for heavy game fish. I lost a +20 lb pike tonight. He may have gotten his teeth ahead of the 6" wire leader, but it was still a heart breaking loss.
Incidentally, seen enough of that pike to notice it's one-eyed. One-eyed Jack's .

What is working for you guys line wise in late season leaf and weed, eider down and dandelion seed filled water?
The flouro is good for staying clean and clear. Not quite the casting distance of equal test weight braid, but the ease of use trade-off may be worth it...

Couple of L. Winnipeg greenbacks from Crescent Drive Park on the Red.
These are definite eaters at about 2lbs. each.
The coffer dam at Lockport is being slowly opened. There must be 2 sections open since Monday- the river level has dropped 4 feet. Shoreline is all clay now at water's edge, and makes landing fish a bit complicated...

Not much left of this. I suppose we should try Breezy point at least once before freeze-up, but man, that's cold fishing.
