Nice 'eye from the Red R. at Selkirk. This one's a female, and the egg sac's already depleted. Everythings early this year.

This one's a male from the same trip.
They're all greenbacks- a colour phase not often seen away from the Lake Winnipeg area. Here's one taken in daylight, to get an idea of the green phase...

I've caught a lot of walleye this year. The big ones are fun, but I like the smaller eaters. There's a lot of walleye pix from this year on file, if anyone's interested...

Mid Oct. eater.

35"+ female. Weather did everything it could that day- sun, rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, hail, and ice pellets- not to mention the pea soup thick fog that the day started with. Never seen so many weather extremes in an 8 hour period before...

One of my new found Mandarin buddies. Very little english, but we communicate just fine- through the universal language of fishing. Glad to provide her with the loan of rod and tackle- seeing the results makes it all worth it. These people are friendly and generous to a fault- I'm amazed at this acceptance...

This was caught by another angler- a 13" black crappie- which is a master angler award size, for this region.

All the fish shown so far have been caught the same way- still fishing with frozen salted minnows on a pickerel rig...

More to follow...

Last one of the year:

Image

Caught Nov. 9/12 around 4 in the afternoon. Temperature was a balmy 24F. Saturday, the river started icing up enough to negate fishing from shore. If you look out the window over my right shoulder, yeah, that's snow. We got a foot of it starting on the 10th...

Time to go nail a few grouse before the kamikaze centerfire deer hunters invade- road hunters :P

Mrs. s. does a good grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup- just the thing after a cold day on the river.

I've had a lot of people telling me I should give ice-fishing a try. Looks like that'll be on the back burner for a bit. There is above freezing temps and rain forecast for this week. 'Tween seasons gonna be extended :P

Haven't made it out for chickens yet. Lookin to try this coming friday...

I just returned to fishing after a long absence. Never realized how much I missed it. I was in norfolk for my Son Steve's retirement from the Navy and paid a visit to the Main Nex across from gate 5 The wife was looking at stuff for the grandkids and I was in the sporting goods section Isaw these R2F salt water rod& reel and decided to buy one. About a week before Sandy hit I went down to Pryibil beach to try it out Now for the most part I'm a sportsman I catch and throw them back. But this time these kids approached me asking if I would donate some of my catch to feed the hungry I told them to hang around for a while Maybe I would get lucky I did get lucky A couple minutes later I reeled in a small snapper Wasn't all that big, but you'd think I gave them a pot of gold They were delighted They put it in that cooler they were carrying around and went on their way There were a few others fishing that morning. A few hours of well spent time. Yep think I'll do some more fishing soon
