I found a comfortable spot by a small creek this morning & was sitting enjoying the little birds singing & flying from tree to tree...

Heard some turks a ways off... in a few minutes a dozen were running right toward me. Stood behind an enormous cottonwood & when I could hear one shuffling through the dry leaves, I leaned around the tree to see a big hen like 15 paces away.

I seldom miss at that range! Put the gold bead under her chin & got a good clean kill. Very little flopping around - no pellets in the breast.

The others wasted no time beating feet & I didn't shoot. I prefer good, clean kills. Tomorrow it goes in the crock pot!

Please pass the gravy!!!

I was going to take a camera but thought it would get too dirty & thus the pic in my back yard. Baby bloodhound will be a great hunter. I cut a wing off for her & she killed it- growled & shook it to death! It was funny!

And that was how I dressed for the occasion = bibs & my Carhartt duck coat. We don' need no steenkin' $500 worth of Cabelas camo or a 4" 8 ga magnum. Used my lucky Rem 1100 2 3/4" chamber 12 ga.

i thought you were going to say it flew right into your face .........................lookin good in those duds and your results were outstanding - only take what you and others will eat is my motto , lest we have too little for another day ,

training the beast is a special art i know nothing of but i admire a dog that will assist in the correct manner , i never had that as a kid - we always [my first 40 years] hunted alone , only in recent [last 20] years have i been exposed to those who used a dog to assist in hunting ,

Never been in camo either.
Breakup has always been blue white and grey plaid top for me and blue denim jeans.

I seem to be invisible to both deer and grouse so attired...
