Opening Day.

2 1/2 lb pike big enough to fill the frying pan from Sturgeon Creek.

Good enough! I'll take it!

Caught a lot of dinkers including a tiny walleye.
Heading out again on the weekend to Hazel Creek for more pike.

If it would warm up a bit here, I'd go for some nocturnal Walleye after work.
Give it a week to warm a bit.

There were a lot of people fishing Sturgeon Creek when we were there on Sat...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

I dusted off the fishing pole and went out for a bit to a pond here in town. No luck. SW

my group fished hard but had little luck , i got the big walleye at 17 1/2" - no its not very big - most we caught were 13" to 15" , seldom has the "big" fish been less than 25" ,

we did get a muskie that was near 30" but had to be released as that season is not open , we also gt a 36" northern that was released , we caught a large number of crappies in the 15-17" range that were kept ,

Sort of still on topic ;)

First walleye eater of the season.

About 3 lbs from the Whitemouth River at Elma right at sundown Friday evening.

Off to a slow start. Most of the creeks and rivers coming off the escarpment are still ice-cold.
Give it another week, and it should pick up.
Fish pictured is a typical shield specimen, and colours to brown, rather than the algae green of the Lake Winnipeg basin walleye....
Taste is just as good though!

Regards,

Doc Sharptail
