Most likely from the south-west.

I first started seeing these mulies in the late '80's, early '90's.
This one's a doe- easily 1/2 mile away from the camera position.
Her ears flicked up with each clunk of the D-200's mirror.
Taken right at sunset.
200mm f4 Nikkor, 1/160 sec at ISO 400.
This is about an 80% crop off the somewhat smallish APSC sensor.
I should take the big Tamron mirror next time I'm down there.
The 200 doesn't quite have the reach.

Personally, I think they're an invasive species.
DNR sees it differently, and has seen fit to protect them from being harvested.
My main point of disagreement is that they will rut with white-tails, resulting in sterile off-spring...

i did not know you had them in your area , i think of them being in the planes states , but hey , maybe there was a time before humans overran the area , may provide another option in the future to those that hunt

Certainly a very mixed message from DNR.
The border area is likely to become a CWD control zone in the not too distant future.
I am obviously not a biologist, but this line of thinking shows little in the way of common sense.
The CWD control zone that we do have was set up to protect the Riding Mountain elk herds.
The White-tailed deer population is at an all-time high here, and may have some bearing on the do not harvest order for mule deer.

Hate to say I told ya so ~ especially with something like this...

I still say DNR's got a few screws loose in their collective intelligence... :P

I wish they would give definitive information about these locations.

Deer numbers are moving towards the un-sustainably high zone, and a cull isn't going to make much of a dent.
Hopefully this works...
