Took the dog out for a short hike this morning and noticed the pond where we go is almost ice free. It's well-stocked with walleye which should be hungry after winter. Any suggestions for artificial walleye lures? Spoons or other? Last time I bought worms, I just fed the bluegills at my expense. SW |

Mr Twister 4" bright green Walleye grub on as light a jig head as your rod and line combination will handle. Barring, that, anything chrome/silver should work. The smaller Rapala cranks should work if they are light in color and highly reflective. I prefer the smaller suspending versions, especially for shallow water. If all else fails, a salted minnow worked about 8" to a foot below the surface should work. Work these slowly. The night crawler worms should work too, especially off a bobber in spring with the same slightly below the surface presentation. I've done best on walleye in current breaks in at least moderately flowing water before water temperatures start to rise. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

https://www.mistertwister.com/informati ... TSF10%2010 I use these in the 4" version in the solid Chartreuse on a 1/8 oz. jig head. Works well with the 10 lb. braid line I use, which makes for a light out fit. If you are on 10-12 lb. monofilament, a 1/4 oz. jig head would work better. I just cast and moderate retrieve this from shore for most of my walleye fishing. Get the grub on the jig hook so the tail curls upward. I try to get it as straight on the hook as I can so the grub will have the proper "Swim" action. About 3-5 bucks for a pack of 8 or 10 depending on region. I can come back to this later with some rigging pix if you'd like to know about it. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

i agree with all of those recommendations but would add that a common jig with a crappie sized salted minnow type bait or plastic bait rigged through the mouth and out the gill with the tip buried in the back will give you a bit of anti snag and should cast adequately , in cold water a slow eratic retrieve will catch in our cold waters , of course live minnows work best but i wasnt sure what you wanted to carry , |
