for those who dont know there are a number of small rivers [some here would call them streams] along the north shore , the tricky thing about them is the rage down thru narrow rocky gorges with sharp falls just before the hit lake superior , while beautiful they are quite dangerous in spite of their look ,

DULUTH — A 29-year-old youth counselor and a 17-year-old woman died after they were swept away by the Temperance River in northeastern Minnesota.
Cook County Sheriff Mark R. Falk says counselor Julie Steiskal and Andrea Evans were among a group of hikers that went into the river to cool off Wednesday evening.
He says most of the water in that part of Temperance River State Park is knee deep, but the women went deeper to wash their hair.
Evans slipped in the strong current, Steiskal grabbed her and both were swept down a gorge more than a quarter-mile long that’s filled with potholes and waterfalls.
The six other people in their group ran alongside the river, and about 30 minutes later saw the women’s bodies drop into a pool below the gorge’s final waterfall.
Both women were declared dead at the scene.
Steiskal and Evans were members of a group affiliated with the Church of the Open Door of Maple Grove, a Minneapolis suburb.
