Yellow Medicine County dealing with coyote trouble
Posted 10/14/2009 10:40 AM ET E-mail | Save | Print

GRANITE FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Yellow Medicine County commissioners are weighing options on how to deal with troublesome coyotes.
Board chairman Gary Johnson says the coyotes in some areas have destroyed the small wildlife, including rabbits and squirrels. Johnson says he gets weekly calls from constituents concerned about coyote activity.

Other commissioners say they've had similar problems, including disappearing farm cats.

Board members talked about offering bounties for hunting coyotes, something the state ended in the 1960s. Commissioner Jane Remiger asked about organized hunts in areas with coyote problems.

Commissioners took no action

:lol the last coyote I shot was with my 45/70 and a 405 gr cast.they do great back flips :rotflma: .the mini is a bit easier to carry in the field and if they are on the run the extra rounds are nice.

Yep - anything but poison. The residual effect kills too much other stuff. I question that Wile E. could be thinning out the squills, though... I think Mr. Robert Kat is responsible for that one.

Actually, the best way to thin out the coyotes is for fur prices to take off again. Then people would start doing something about the problem. SW

Pete I like your ranch rifle. I have a couple of 40 round mags for mine though. We don't have a yote problem around here that I know of.

That is some good shooting. I have never fired mine yet and have had it for 20 years. Never got any ammo but my son got about 1500 once fired cases from Camp Lejune for me and one of these days I will get some loaded. But I just may get a barrel for my Encore to shoot them in.

50 meters iron sights @ ft hood.when the G.I.'s are zeroing there M-4's and M9's thats all that is open as the ranges intersect.

might try a scope next time.the rear sight isn't the best for target shooting.

The rear sight on most Ruger rifles is a Williams pice of Shit.(thats the nice way to say it..)
10/22's have 'em as well........though the other 99% of the rifle is "the Schizz"
They are notorious for breaking off or at least cracking from the screws to the "hinge" and I havent seen one last a year (most last less that) that has had regular use..... just not enough metal for any sort of strength against bumps and such.
I actually have welded a bead across the hinge part on alotta them, and make them "solid" .
A lotta guys do that when possible. The ones that keep the original sights dont use them, as they have a scope, that actually protects the rear sight ~~LOL!!~~
I buy them by the dozen and relace that many around here as soon as they show up from GPC. :-?
I made up some solid "u" notched rears for guys out of scrap aluminum, but they are small and time consuming.
A guy could make some $$$ making a good solid rear sight for the 10/22 and others, Im sure.
better yet, something like the solid 25 meter sight, with folding leafs for 50 meters, and 100 meters express sights on my Romainian trainer .22

Oh ya.

Actually, the folding rear williams sights are the ONLY complaint Ive ever had. I wonder 'Just what could those guys at Ruger been thinking??'

In this house, we have a Gp 100', GP101, two Single Six, 7 10/22s, an M-77 .243 and two MkII's, a Bearcat and two Mini-14's, we like 'em that much.

.223 is an excellent Fur caliber in FMJ's.

I hate to bring these dead threads back to life, but come on Pete you know you can't kill no yotes with a mini. If'n your gonna use that little ole .223 you know it has to come out of a tacticool AK with 12 pounds of junk bolted on it a holo sight and some kind of infrared back up.
And +1 on the 45-70 and 405s it kills them pretty dead. Jim would be proud.
