Lake Winnipeg Goldeye. Long ago specialty of the dining car trade. A delicacy smoked over hickory coals. People would ride on the super continental just to get a taste of these back in the late 40's-early 50's. This one's about a pound and half- market sized. Pretty bland fare if you don't have a smoker. He was released right after this pic.



Rabbit's on the run. Digi-zoom ain't all that it's cracked up to be. I'll take a reflex finder over a lcd screen any day. That screen is hard to pan with- especially at the telephoto max...

For a digital tele, that's still not a bad pic of the wabbit. Saw a rail fan taking train pics this week - looked like he had one of the Canon mini-Hubble lenses. APO? I think they are around 1000mm & cost thousands. Might be a little cheeper now that chemical photography is going the way of the stegosaurus. SW

...this works great for a telephoto.....digital OR stoneage film...which I STILL prefer...

holy cow it has its own caisson ,

i still prefer the SLR and stone age film as well but ive grown accustomed to the convenience of the instant pick of digital

thats a cool photo - +1 on the B&W , i still have my nikon with all the lenses from 1970 , dont have my b&w darkroom any more ,

in my past lives i used to shoot a lot of B&W for fun and certain aspects of my work -there were photo/drawing techniques i used that are now considered archaic of coarse [before there were computers to do that] and in the case of a few historical restoration projects i used the darkroom to work with turn of the century [the 1800-1900 turn] photos to verify original building details , most notably the bi-centennial work for the city of winterset , iowa , some will recall this was the site of the book "bridges of madison county" , its known for its seven covered bridges , its also a childhood home of john wayne .

and i used a lot of kodachrome , shot lots of slides as sales and promotional aids for the architectural firm i worked for ,
as well as teaching aids when i was doing some student teaching stuff in college ,

i miss some things about those photo times - but i guess thats what age does for us , gives us something to look back on fondly
