congrats , its a very rewarding experience that you will enjoy , i encourage you to do this , and i think you will be great at it , these young folks need to be encouraged to hunt and to be taught to do it right ,

i am not a certified instructor but there were a number of folks/friends at my gunclub that were and i assisted for over the year before last year by being one of the range officers [i am a certified range safty officer] that handled the shooting range ,

there were two of us range officers and we ran the kids thru three at a time , it was scary how little these kids listened but by the time we were finished they were a lot better ,

I took my youngest son to a hunter safety course and I sat through it and back then they did not do any range class and I am not sure they even do it today as some of the classes aren't taught at ranges. I suppose different states have different requirements.

our state requires classes , a written test ,

and a "field day" they not only shoot to prove proficiency - site picture , clear shooting path , operation of various action types , actual target bullet placement and proper handling of a loaded firearm , but also have to pass a number of field stages [with a firearm] of 'fence crossing' , 'elevated stand climbing' , 'navigation in the woods' , etc

we will be starting classes again in the spring i think

There can be something said for field training in a hunter safety course and should be required.
