A Square 10, Thanks for the local algal information from lakes in Minn.. My mother came from a family of 10 farm children. I think at least three had parkinsons when they got older. They usually live long, but also come down with Alzheimer's. Live stock/wild animals drink and do other things in some of those ponds which promote algal growth. Also there are a number of shallow wells. One wonders. This is partially the reason for my interest in neurodegenerative diseases and there are clusters around some rural communities. But there is also a lot of herbicide and pesticide use. It is often difficult to separate cause-effect along with synergism. FYI. Activated charcoal adsorbs most of the toxic compounds from blue green algae/cyanobacteria. They really are not true algae and certainly not all are bad. It really depends on species, strain, and growing conditions. |

ive noticed that the algae blooms are prolific in dry years here , thats when we see them and the news picks up the stories [not that the news is really news anymore] i see it show up in a local story sometimes - particularly when on a lake that has high end homes on it , that always drives the news - money , there are a few areas that have been plagued by things caused by pesticides and runoff as there were once farms around all of our local lakes till the development value caught up , there was a chain of lakes - created by daming a rive a few miles from here that had a number of resorts and actually had a cabin/chalet built back in the 60s that was a sweepstakes prize , then it had farms all around it and was remote so-to-speak yet close to civilization , it had a mink farm and numerous cattle farms close to or on its shores , i thought to buy or build there in the 80s , now it is totally built up and the farms are all but gone , but the side affects of them are evident in these lakes , the environmental wackos attacked the mink farm a bit back and caused the death of nearly 10,000 animals when they let them loose not understanding the minks "culture" , good intentions went astray big time , anyway - i no longer visit that chain of lake - used to fish them regularly , there is a second north of us that was always overbuilt with cabins since ive been here , the straight pipe sewers that fed to the lake 20-30 feet offshore took a toll back in the late 80s and they are now fighting to save that one , it also gets drainage from farms , one of the big problems is the invasive species - between the millfoil and zebra mussels we are loosing a lot of pristine northern waters very rapidly |

ooooooooooh , that is creepy , just remember that cats paws just left the litter box , you can find a new girlfriend and turtles seldom turn into princes with only one kiss - but then the gene pool is really contaminated these days |

ok - the dog stands a small chance against one but two - dog sized crabs - really , do you want to pick that fight ? i would think long and hard on that confrontation even if well armed - without the dog so i didnt accidently shoot him ....just sayin , foosball - soccer , very similar and yes ive seen the theatrics , im not swayed , i think you pick what you do and enjoy it or walk away , real soccer players get back in the game like most of our football players , but some of the soccer players get an "A: for the effort - might do well in hollywood when their careers are over ....again just sayin , |

Those crabs eat coconuts, so yeah, they're bad news. Pretty tasty though, I hear. SW |

Man if I seen those crabs running around we'd have to bring out the BIG guns and load AP. Nope a pup has no chance against those claws, probably take off a leg. |
