Yesterday's Weapons Forums

The plane/train/runway . Gisborne airport, New Zealand. They actually have a rr crossing the runway. I think the plane is a TBF Avenger. You can make out the torpedo bay and rear gunner turret. The railroad line is no longer in service so this is an older photo. Neat though. A little bit nerve racking if you have a sudden power loss.

The Kiwis had a squadron of Avengers based there since 1943.

Sorry Doc not a Thunderbolt/P-47, it's a Grumman TBF Avenger. Gun turret behind main canopy.

i thought he was skinningit and i was going to ask WTF ? but now i dont have to .....but i might ask WHY ?

It's just customizing something much like buying cool wheels for your ride. Strictly a vanity thing. The pic doesn't show it too well, but that's quite an intricate design the camel barber is carving there.

You may have seen pics of Arab rifles with mother of pearl stock inlays - same concept. SW
