Yesterday's Weapons Forums

It's quite common in Russia to see engines and cars slowly oxidizing on rusty rail. When they made the switch from steam to diesel, the old stuff was simply set aside and forgotten. From which we can safely assume spot market prices on scrap metal are pretty low there.

Actually, even right here where I live there are nearly 50 old model diesels rusting where they have set for at least 10 years. When I retired, there were no less than 3 miles of newer style high horsepower diesels in "long term storage" mode at the rail yard where I worked.

Fuel had been drained, batteries and turbos removed (turbos can be readily resold) and the rest left to rust. Probably not worth the cost of demolition to have them cut up for scrap. SW

thats just wrong , ruined a perfectly good song - oh yea that already happened multiple times , never mind

Ol' John Denver takes an unfairly rough rap at times.

Not entirely his fault though~ that song got a lot of over-zealous airplay here in the mid 70's.
Used to drive me around the bend at work. Hearing it 5 or 6 times an hour over the a.m. radio was a bit much overkill. I kept listening for the rare doo-wop in between...

The gull got a good laugh from me.
