My Mom did the carpet beating thing too.
She used a length of 2" x 4" lumber.
Gran had a real beater tool from the 20's with a cast metal loop on the end of a 4 foot pole.
The 2 x 4 was the more effective cleaning tool.

Beer truck from probably the late 40's or early 50's.
Likely a promotional vehicle only- even with a fleet number on the doors, I doubt there were many on the roads. Could have been a draught tanker too~ CFL football games come to mind here.

Quoted hogger's pic and it came out kinda big.

i like the beer truck , but i thought labatts was "blue" ? did it change color over the years " ill admit i was not drinking it in the 40s but i was by the late 60s-70s and well beyond , just not lately tho , too expensive here now ,

I looked it up and there were conventional shaped blue trucks, but I could not find a time line. Prohibition advertising limitations made it necessary to use the trucks to spread their word. The Canadian prohibition started earlier in 1901 on PE Island and spread to other provinces. US prohibition began in 1919. This was a disaster to brewing companies.

None too sure of how this post ended up here.
May have had something to do with having four windows open at the same time

After a bit of digging around, I found that these trucks were actually a fleet, with some red bodies, and more than a few gold bodies. All were 1946 White tractors as in the photo.
Interestingly enough, the trailers were matched to the tractors, and could not be switched around without extensive modifications and adjustments.

"Blue" was just one of several brands that Labatt's made.
I wasn't much of a "Blue" drinker. It always tasted a bit green to me.
I drank mostly Carling-O'Keefe's Old Vienna, or Molson's "Canadian".
