a few years ago i bught a vetterli that had been converted from rimfire to centerfire. itis in rough shape but bore is good. anyway i just ordered another one in very good condition that has also been converted to centerfire. i have shot the one i have but would like to know if anyone has loading data. there isnt a whole lot out there so if anyone on this forum has experience with the swiss vetterli in centfire i would appreciate picking your brain. argie1891 |

Lee has a dedicated mold & I use that. I think it's still special order & you have to call in to order it. I've been using 22.5/AA5744 with the 310 grain Lee bullet @ about 1400 fps over my cheep chronograph. In my notes I show a .432 bullet diameter. The Lee bullet is heeled, but you might be able tyo use a regular 44 cal one. I have not experimented that way. SW |

i have been using a lbt 44caliber bullet of about 300 gr. with unique powder. luckily lee makes dies or it would cost a hundred bucks or more for them. i look forward to using your load of 5744 in it. i am sure those on this forum will understand the love affair with old historic firearms. argie1891 |

Im using 22.5 grains of IMR SR4759 or 23.5 grains of AA5744 with the lee group buy mold, hollow base 330 grain. I use 8mm lebel or 348 winchester depending on chamber dim at base. |

i have made cases for the vetterli from 8mm lebel blank brass made by remington in 1915, it is boxer primed. i normally would not use blank for shooting but at the pressures of the swiss i am sure i wont have a problem and so far everything works well. made a taller front site but havent shot it since i made the site. with the issue site it shot high but still grouped well. today i picked up a k=31 with a 5 cavity noe mould, scope mount over 100 cases and a bunch of other suff for 350 i think i did on that deal. will post more when i get a chance to shoot it. argie1891 |
