Damp pump locks up sometimes! The Operating Bar Stop engages ... sometimes ... and I don't see what is causing it. It has a little tab that sticks out in front of the action and if I wiggle that it will disengage and let the pump work. But surely that isn't the way it is designed. I can't imagine having to co-ordinate fingering that tab, working the pump and getting your finger out of the way before the pump comes all the way back and smashes your finger. And if that IS the way it is supposed to happen how come it doesn't do that with every shot?
I can't see anything that works with the Operating Bar Stop except the Operating Bar itself.

My son looked at it and pointed out a pin on the side of the hammer that looks as if it should press the notch away from the Operating Bar just as it starts to come back. He thinks there may be some wear on either the pin or the OpBar Stop so that it doesn't engage consistently.

Something to look at in detail tomorrow.

Concerning the Savage - there's a reason many of the older designs didn't endure. It doesn't take much wear to really mess things up. SW
