could it be a refurb date- upgrade to new smokeless charges ? im just guessing here

Yeah, they look great! They also look massive when you put them next to one of my 1849 Colt Pocket Pistols!

The Adams patent was one of the earliest successful double action revolvers dating from 1851.

They came in a few different calibers and were made under license by dozens of different makers. They were Colt's biggest competitor in Europe and the colonies.

The 38 bore (.50 cal) is a large revolver about the same size as ( or a little bigger than ) a S&W Model 29. They also came in .44, .36, and I have heard of a .25 ( dunno if this one is real though )

I only have the .50 at the moment but have a Tranter coming in .44. It is slightly smaller with a 6" barrel.

I am looking to get a couple more of these big .50 cals.....Im hooked!

When I hold an 1851 38 bore Dragoon Adams in one hand and a 54 bore in the other then you realise just how much of a hand cannon the .38 bore pistols were. It was said, and I read in a book that the British found that the 54 bore was more than sufficient to kill Europeans but the natives of many of the countries they invaded worked themselves up into an adrenaline rush before charging and the only way to stop them was to build the Dragoon or 38 bore guns...so it could be said 54 bores for Europeans and 38 bores for native warriors.
