We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Does anyone have any insight on this rifle? It is 56" long with a 41 and 1/2" octagon barrel. The lock says "J. Holland." It has a metal ramrod and has a small inlay near the rear tang that says ??B 1829. The stock is made of maple. The trigger guard is made of brass. It appears as if this rifle was converted from flintlock to percussion. The front barrel band is a replacement. I can see no other markings on the rifle. I find the shape of the butt stock intriguing.

excerpt from an expert...

"The only listing for a J. Holland is in Frank Sellers’ American Gunsmiths which notes that the markings has been observed on flintlock locks, but no location is known. The shape of the lockplate and the decorative features on it are typical of those found in the period 1810-1840.

The sideplates (shaped like a rocker under the rear screw) for the lock screws are not of the traditional Bethlehem-Allentown style, but are more often found on guns made further into the New England area, at least in the earlier period, but they may have become popular elsewhere by the late 1820s.

This is a good representative example of a late flintlock era Pennsylvania long rifle, better known as a “Kentucky rifle,” of the plain grade used by most settlers of the time. It has been used and later converted to percussion, probably in the 1840s -1850s. It appears that the stock may have been cleaned or refinished at some point in its history."
