I see that some are using IMR 4350. I have been working up loads with IMR 3031 with what I thought was working Pretty good results but I am starting to see Pressures signs on the Primers, but aspecially with Winchester primers, and higher velocities. and less Pressure and lower velocities by about 100 fps with CCI primers. I am up to 44grns 3031 with 208grn FMJ on top of Privi Brass 8x56R. with Velocities of 2110 fps.
And also using IMR 4064 with the same load and bullet and brass with results of Velocities are 2010 fps. both stats are using CCI primers. Now using IMR 4064 so far no pressure problems yet.
now my question for anybody is does anybody have a near Austrian or Nazi load that with good results? I am using my M95/34 Carbine that has good headspace and good breech, and light frost in the bore. I had no problems shooting 1938 Austrian ammo other than it kicks pretty hard.. can IMR 4350 do better?
thanks for any help.

The 4350 is a slower burning powder so it might do better.

I use 48.0 IMR 4064 and the 205 grain Hornady bullet for a 2435fps average. It showed accuracy potential in my long rifles and bruises in my carbines. Actually, with a shoulder bag, that load did well in the carbines, too. I worked up carefully to it with a goal of duplicating original ballistics. SW

Yeh, I just started using IMR4064@42grns up to 44grns and plan to continue with it to see how well it works. I am using Privi 208grn FMJ on Privi brass there cheaper than the softpoint 205grns I either got them from Graff and sons or Buffalo arms, not shure but I know Buffulo Arms does have 150grn softpoint .330 diameter I got some in case I want to load for hunting. who knows,
then I may try IMR4350@Higher dose's, I believe the load that blew back on my brow, a couple of weeks ago was IMR4350@40grns, although it worked fine in my 1888/90 Longer barrel vs. shorter barrel in M95/34
well my latest load is of last week and here are my results IMR. 4064 @ 46grns with a 208 gn fmjbt .330dia. 2142 FPS not to bad.. Im getting there.

the first rifle i bought with my c&r was a steyr m-95 ammo was cheap but bullet moulds dies and brass was very expensive. being not too well versed in money matters i ordered RCBS dies from their G list bullet mould from down under CBE bullet moulds bertram brass. I put down over $200 bucks to load for a $79.00 rifle. As i am a cast bullet shooter i loaded mostly Unique, 2400 and even some WCC 860 50 cal machine gun surplus powder. i managed to get some pretty good 50 yard groups a couple right at an inch. i made a taller front sight so it would shoot closer to point of aim. all in all a real fun and expensive project. joe gifford aka argie1891

well, its all can hit us in the pocket, I have bought most of my components from Graf and sons, under fifty bucks for 100 pcs brass they sell Privi, and you can buy 108 grn fmjbt for about 20 bucks per 100. still trying to work up a good load but keep hitting the wall at about 2100fps. so for my best load is IMR 4064@47grns or less, and this is showing signs of high pressure, and so does the Austian ammo..

Well, finally making a little progress at jumping of the 2100fps barrier. I just tried using a powder that I read about that has lost some popularity, and it works great so far for the 8x56R!!! hope to increase it soon slowly from here. OK. starting again with a 208grn bullet FMJ and a LOAD of Hodgons BLC-2 @ 50grns. by weight im my Steyr Carbine with a verygood bore I just clocked it at 2222fps. and it is showing signs of high pressure but I feel in this particular gun it can still go higher, would like to stop at 2300fps...... if it is atainable.
One thing I have found that this particular cartridge is very lousy design. it uses more powder than the 8x50R the get the same results using the same bullet I have experamented with using Pyrodex in 308, 8x50R, and 8x56R, and 7.62x54R, and it seems that the 8x56R case shape and capacity wauld lead one to beleive the it would produce the most power for it holds more powder but it seems to need extra powderto overcome the long tapered neck down and produce's plenty of recoil and less velocity. but I still really like the firearm design.. So my favorite is the M95 carbine chambered in 8x50R because using 7.62x54R brass in Winchester or Privi seems to fire form for my gun very well. and I have reloaded many time to date and have had no problems yet. But these are loaded down with IMR 4350 @ only 40grns to keep the pressure down.. or just for the fun of making lost of smoke I have loaded it with the Tripple Seven @ 60grns by Volume and get about 1600fps. using a 200grn bullet... and about the same results using Pyrodex FF Just being safe and having fun is what its about, so it all takes time...

:-? I guess I need to make a retraction, that I stated that the 8x56R is a lousy design, when I tested the Trail boss Powder I started with using the steyr M95 in 8x56 for my initial test bed. only then, when I saw only low pressure's that I moved to the 8x50R and basicly the same results and while comparing other load data, that I done in the past I noticed the they both are getting the same results using the same powders and amounts with the same bullet......

I just tried something diferent, I just tried 42grn. of IMR4198 with a jacked .330 208grn. bullet and got a nice recoil in my M95 with 8x50R I did not crony. it but was a modest feel and round primers of couse my 8x50 M95 has a really bad barrel but a good action/ chamber.. Now I am going to try 43grns. with a lead pellet, and also in 8x56R..

I did try about 42 grns of IMR 4198 with a lead pellet,,, I think it is too fast for lead, I had a lot of white looking smoke that I think is lead mist?

I just loaded both 8x56R and 308 ammo by filling the case full to the top with trail Boss and I think its a fun plink load for both, nice mild recoil and enough power to to punch though 1/4 inch steel. at 40 yards...
