.....shame on me...lived out here the last 14 years in the Boonies of Preble County and often passed this little obscure cemetery less than a mile from our house...small...old worn weathered headstones with a few "newer" types -with a small poorly maintained church (think i've never seem more than 10 cars there thru the years-and not all at once)...always told myself one day I'd stop and look...a little while ago in a break of the crappy weather I looked over while passing and saw what appeared to be the badly tattered remnants of a US flag by one of the graves-that did it.....I pulled off the side of the road and walked over...mebbe 50 or so graves at most???....newest one I could find was 1956-the next newest were 1905...all the rest were from 1835 to late 1870's....many small childrens graves...small stones saying no more than "infant"....or if the had a name, just had "aged 2 weeks....aged 4 months..."etc...some that said nothing more than "mother"....or "father"....but to my suprise there were Veterans graves-2 Civil War,and one from 1812... :-o ....they had no flags except the one and that one must have been put there loooong ago-since I just happened to have a large batch of them I went home(literally just around the corner) and came back and gave them all nice new crisp ones....have been doing some google-fu when I've had the time and found that one of the civil war ones died in 1862 from"disease"(thats all it said...)....he was only 16 years old...still digging for more info and will post more of what I find-if anything, and more pics later......I'm especially interested what I might come up with on the 1812 one....

Great Job Mario!!
Our small cemetary here puts flags on all the Vet's graves on Memorial Day and the 4th of July and lines the cemetary roads with large flags at the same time.

Speaking of old forts, we have Ft Amanda in SW Allen county.

They were using ground radar to locate just where the fort sat.

ive often stopped at these tiny off the path cemetary sites when driving , i find it peaceful and somehow restful , as well as inspiring [as you did ] often found these very early graves moving to think you walk the same ground ,

when my wife and i were courting , we canoed the rivers around here - once when we stopped to rest we found an overgrown cemetery long neglected , many graves of pre & civil war era , nothing newer than 1880s about 10 year later a newspaper article said someone "found" the site and it was being restored , it had been the site of a long ago relocated town , back when the rail road came through here , mixed feelings - nice to know it was to be cared for , but i was saddened to think the peacefulness of that place would be lost , the weeds and brush were not what was intended i know , yet it gave it dignity in that it stood out in a wild terrain , i trust someone places flowers and flags now that it is public again , one day i must revisit it ,
