If I remember my history correctly Bockscar was being flown by Major Sweeney for the dropping of the Fat Man bomb while Captain Bock was flying the chase plane The Great Artiste which was normally Major Sweeneys plane. Major Sweeney flew the The Great Artiste as the chase plane for the Enola Gay.

I found that except for the lobby of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the USAF Museum is far better. If only they had more navy planes, fat chance on that one. The Japanese fighter near the B-29 is a pretty rare sight too. The B-36 in the next hangar over is one pure monster looking bomber. They used to be based at Wright-Patterson.

Best Regards,

Mark

....I believe that a few of the F-4 and A-7 aircraft they have in the Vietnam and Cold War section 'might' have possibly been 'borrowed' from the Navy and repainted.... ...they have tailhooks..... :rotflma:
...though I am aware that they "might" have had them for emergency arresting gear at certain airfields...I'd have to look closer to see if their wings fold...

....zoomies cant land on ships... :jok: ;)

I was stunned it was there. No many Japanese planes still left intact. I was working with a guy helping to restore the Memphis Belle in his spare time. I have no idea how they worked on a Japanese aircraft if they have to.

Best Regards,

Mark
