Hey, what are you going to finish your wood with? Also, what type of wood is it?

Best Regards,

Mark

It's maple that will be "weathered" with a secret compound. Which I hope does not include being left in a litter box for 2 or 3 days. :-o

I've got some brass tack decorations ordered for it. SW

I work with metal all the time, so wood is a real treat with me. I'm a real fan of boiled linseed oil on beech wood. This would explain why I like Carcanos more than most.

I do hope the grain comes out good with the "secret compound". I would guess my working all day with metal making precision items makes doing that stuff at home way less fun for me. Odds are I will be stripping two old Arisakas down to their base wood and redoing their finish with boiled linseed oil. I might also actually boil their hand guards and take out all their dents. Right now one has a BLO finish and the other looks strangely done state side at a private residence. The later has a beech wood stock and I can barely see the wood grain.

That stock looks largely hand cut. Is this correct? Man, nice work if so. I'd be cursing not having a good belt sander, proper ventilation, and other power tools. More power to you.

Best Regards,

Mark

BTW, I get to make aluminum look good. Bring on the power tools!

Are you a machinist by trade or a tool & die maker. I used to be a maintenance machinist but we just had manual machines. If only I had some CNC machine.

I can actually do both. I'd rather crank handles on some things, but hate putting in hole patterns by hand. That's why God made CNC machines. Right now I run a load of production, but it pays the bills. After 10 hours on my feet, I dread wood work or reloading most of the time. No mill or lathe at the house for some reason…

Best Regards,

Mark

BTW, I did find that hard wood is a blast to work with since it is a bit like metal. I never knew wood could be that hard.

BTW, does your cat watch you work on projects like mine does? He'd make a good supervisor.

Best Regards,

Mark
