We have to go slow through track work which gives me time to get a few pics with my iPod. Sorry quality to say the least, but I'm not taking my good Canon on the train.

Flooding in Lusk, Wyo destroyed this overpass. A house was washed off its foundation and gained enough momentum that it knocked the abutment loose. Raging water then eroded the structure until it fell onto the tracks.

A few weeks later, this mess is what has been done for repairs. Doesn't look too sturdy!

The flood washed a LOT of ballast out into hay meadows. Apparently, it was cheeper to scoop it up for re-use than haul new rock in from a quarry 80 miles away. It's not tvery clear, but taking rock from a pasture in a small tracked dump truck. Pretty neat!

Last week there was a derailment - probably broken rail. 38 cars in the dirt. What a mess!

Very informative…. Never realized how damaging a flood could be to RR tracks. Ever been in a derailment?

fun to see your photos - i never think of my daily workday as interesting until someone happens to show some photos of what is going on , then it dawns on me we all walk different paths and see totally different views of the places we live , one day ill get something interesting to post ,

I sure would like to shadow you as you work for about a week. It would be a memory of a life time!

Steve did they get a lot of flooding near Walker Creek road area?

I meant to post this one, too. It took 5600 yards of rock to fill this little divot. This was just one place between Mannville & Lusk that was severely damaged.

Word is the flood cost over $65 million to repair & they are still working to get a smooth road bed. Still a 3 mile stretch of 25MPH rail. SW

Your "little divot" is larger than some of the native american cliff dwellings I have surveyed. Though it is a lot lower down than they were.

ya hey - thats a real interesting excavation , getting the road bed stabilized as they fill it back in must be an interesting task - it looks like half the track or better is cantilevered out over the hole in a decent amount of that photo ,
