Thanks for the pics Hogger. Yeah that is very unusual to see them together. More so to see the Elk down low like that in the flat land. 84 was the first time we seen an Elk on the ranch, and also the last time. It was a cow with a calf and the calf was fairly small, it had a really swollen front leg (maybe snake bitten) and not moving around to well. Anyway when the cow left it the boys (my nephews) picked it up and brought into camp, why I don't know. Wasn't anything we could do for the little guy. We made them put him back and leave him alone, the mother eventually came back and the hung around for about 4 days. I've got some pictures somewhere of the boys and the calf. Oh and there was a marathon ass chewing that went on after the boys put the calf back about leaving wild life alone, they aren't pets, etc. |

seems when we are young we want to help/rescue , the knowledge to know when you can make a difference and when its best to leave nature alone is a learned experience , some folks never quite catch on to that difference - i call them liberals or socialists these days , but when we were young , we too sometimes thought that way , granted when we were very young , but there was a day .......... forget who said it ...that youth think with their heart and with age they use their brain , |

Amen Brother Mike. We weren't to hard on them. Just worried the cow would come back and stomp their dumb a**, or reject the calf. To me it looked like a snake bite. Any way it seemed to getting along okay by the time we left to come home. |

very real possibility if she hot mad enough , no sense irritating mom , i realize there are a lot of us of this age that did not wear our heart on our sleeve for long - the times did not allow it , i do not even pretend to understand how quickly some "grew up" and out of the liberal line of thinking , i do recall my own and know it ended at an early age far before those of today , |

There was a Moose in the city last week, first spotted in the Red River near Crescent Drive park. He showed up again the day after at the road into the Bombers/Roughriders football game. Police had DNR come out to tranquilize and relocate it. Poor moose didn't survive it~ the 3 tranquilizer shots were a bit too much after it's struggles in the river muck the day before. Odd Moose are this far south, and even odder they are ending up in Nebraska. Maybe they developed a taste for corn Regards, Doc Sharptail |
