Into the truck and out to the buttes for our morning thrash around and adventure me & flop ears went. On the way, this mulie buck was giving us the stink eye. Little mutt wanted out to say hi & show it the short way over the horizon. Mmmmm... nah - better not.
Parked at our usual spot & started leaving footprints. About 1/4 mile down the trail, I invoked the Asian deity associated with extreme surprise, "Ho Li ****!!!!!! (I think you know the one) "That's a six point bull elk!!!!!!"
I ducked down low & back to the truck for my camera. Grabbed that and was quietly making my way back when the light blub (dim as it was) came on...
"Wait a minute!!!!!! Deers and elks are very similar species! So if Bambi has newly emerging antlers, why does Elmer Elk have a full hat rack of polished ones?????"
Well, duh, Steve! The local archery club is having their annual money shoot & had already set out targets. Just down the trail were others soon to become pincushions.
No wonder (a) I was able to sneek so close and (b) baby bloodhound didn't smell anything. And bull elk stink!
But it was an adventure. We always have one!
