Taken about 1/2 hour ago. It's pretty cold to be fighting house fires. I can hear trucks in the back lane now, and am going back out with the phone this time. I opened up the little point and shoot Canon to try and dry out any condensation. -34 C here right now. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

A lot of fires this time of year are started by supplemental heating like kerosene or electric heaters. Never had anything like that, but Mom & Dad got me an electric blanket which was great. The old ranch house didn't have upstairs heating & most of the winter I could see my breath when I got up. SW |

i had - once back in the late 70s/early 80s , both a propane heater and a kerosene heater , both gave off fumes that ended their use quickly , when i moved into my house in the very early 90s we used the wood burning fireplace for a couple years , the draft was excessive , i removed it , we have used electric heaters in the house and the motorhome on occasion but they really dont do much , electric blankets have worked for a period but seem to fail when you need them most , we have talked about a gas fireplace but never really got serious about it , i somewhat doubt it will happen at this point in life , ive enjoyed the ones my friends have installed a lot , edit to add - having secondary heat source used to be required in this climate , we have gone away from that as things have become more reliable up here , i think its a good thing to be able to survive a few days without outside service but im not a prepper by nature , |
