A couple more from my morning adventure with the dog.

Deer hoping the dog wouldn't notice. Dog just howled at it.

Same road - different deer about an hour later when the sun was up. Notice the nesting box Game & Parks puts up for mountain bluebirds. A worthwhile project in my books.

1st deer pic looks like a nice big whitetail doe.
Not sure about the 2nd-could be a muley doe.
Do you have both there?
Last I heard on this, inter-breeding only lasts a single generation,
with the off-spring being sterile....

Got a few pix here with the D-200.

Image

Image

Both were taken with the Nikkor 85mm f 1.8 with auto fill flash at f4.
This time of year, the daylight starts to slip away faster... almost full dark for these shots.

Image

The rest of these were taken with the new to me Vivitar 28mm f 2.8.
I consider this an "art" lens. It turns brilliant flower colors into quite muted pastels...

Image
Sis says this is an unopened bird of paradise flower. O.K. :P

Image
Here's one starting to open up. It is wilting from lack of water.
Most of the flowers posted here are city plantings.

Here's a couple of more taken with the 85mm Nikkor.

French explorer LaVerandreye immortalized in bronze at Tache Park in Winnipeg.

ISO 400, 1/60 sec at f2.

The wilting on these is becoming increasingly obvious.
Driest summer we've had in quite a long time.
I hope the city gets out to water some of these before they all die...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Back to pix...

Image

There's squill's around here somewhere.

Image

There we go! A very young gray bushy tail. Oaks are flowering here,
and that's what he's eating. Oak flowers.
Both these were taken with the 85mm Nikkor.
That tiny squill was a good 25yds distant- a challenging shot for a rifle, let alone a camera.
About a 85% crop.

I may have posted this before with one of the micro point and shoots.
This was taken with the D-200.

I got ton's more if anyone wants to see...

There's another with part of the sheet metal work broken off.

A bit more of an architectural bent here.

Image

This was taken with the 55 micro~ probably wide open at about 1/125 sec at ISO 200.

Image

Image
Composition ain't the only thing going. Perspective effect shown in these 2.
Likely taken with the 80-200 f4 nikkor zoom at 80mm.
One drive is kinda woof for keeping exposure info.

I like this. Apart from the 1/2, this is the way street info should have been, and needs to be, done.

Crescent Drive Park.
This smallish white tail doe gave a few photo opportunities.

Image

This has been an incredibly dry summer here, and it shows on this doe.
It's obvious she's not getting the grasses and grains and wild fruits that make up most of the deer diets. This one has been reduced to eating scrub oak leaves...

Both taken with the Nikkor 200mm f4 at f8 for the out in the open shot,
and at f4 for the shaded woods.

There's a just out spots fawn with her that was a bit skittish for me to capture in focus.

Image

A couple of immature grey bushy tails playing tag.
About 65 yds with the 200mm and considerable cropping.
Interestingly enough, they reacted to the mirror/shutter on the D-200....

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Yesterday I saw several buzzards spiraling their way upward in a thermal out in the buttes. No camera, of course, but I put one in the truck today.

Buzzards were a no show, but quite by chance a hot air balloon club was launching from a field just outside town. Several people I know have expressed an interest in a balloon ride, but not me. I'm just not confident of them being able to control the flight path.

Fun to watch, though. (Flop Ears thought it was exciting.) SW

That is a difficult subject for some sensors to handle.
Nicely done.
We've been getting a bit of the long sunrays here in early morning as well.

Thanks, Doc! I was going to try for more balloon pics this morning, but it was all smoky again. Only one daredevil launched when I drove by. I did get a couple shots of buttes obscured by smoke. SW

Daylight is shrinking fast now, with lengthening shadows occurring earlier in the afternoons.

Image

Red Crested Woodpecker at about 45-50 yds.
Nikkor 200mm F4 at f4, 1/250 sec. ISO 800.
Bit of a learning curve here. I had to increase sensitivity speed here to reduce the blur around his head- he was drilling.

Image
Circular spider web with the hunter/trapper near image center.
Nikkor 50mm F2 at f5.6, 1/250 sec.
The old D-200 seems to handle back-lighting quite well with it's 8 point metering system, with little operator in-put required...

Doc Sharptail

Spidey webs are tough. Somewhere in my neg file is one I took of a web covered in dew. As soon as I get around to having my desk top fixed so I can fire up my neg scanner, I'll root around for it. SW

With the high winds we've been getting here lately,
that shot was indeed a lucky one.

There's a colony of tiny brown spiders on the back fence here that do geodesic wonders out there. Very tricky to do on account of lighting angles. Back-lighting is a pre-requisite for them. Dew drops help, but I haven't seen any last long enough to run in, grab the camera, and come back out- either the wind breaks them up, or the lighting changes too quickly...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail
