First two frames look almost monochrome, if it weren't for the sunrise tinted clouds.

I can't quite get the sensor on the nikon to behave the same way at daybreak.
We may be looking at the canon system's correction for the long lateral light rays.
I had similar experiences with the tiny p&s canon exposing the same way.
Very interesting results!
Especially the warming sky in the third frame.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

Still messing around on a learn as I go basis. Today's project was capturing essence of a snow storm. Most of the pics were 1/50th @ f.28. Pics taken just before sunrise. SW

Those modern coatings on your camera's lens give an impressive contrast range~
... something I can't quite do with the old film manual focus lenses that I use.
This is especially evident in frame #3 of your post.
Impressive pics and very impressive country.
Those buttes would make a real impression on large format.
The Mamiya M-645-D would probably be a good equal to the task for going film-less.
It is quite a serious outlay of dinero's though- probably well out of my range.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

They're baaaack!
Who needs pink flamingos when these can be had at a much lesser price.
Bird at left is a female just about ready for the nest.

Image

I think they're more in love with their own reflections than they are with each other- even though they do mate as a single pair for life...

Image

Image

Plenty of deer around the creek.

Image

There they are, after somebody's lawn trim plants...

Image

Dogs just wanna have fun...

Image

Not bad for an old guy manual focusing, working the aperture and panning all at the same time.
Nikkor 105mm f2.5 at f4 for the upper dog shot, and wide open at f2.5 for the lower shot.

All of these in this set were taken with the 105mm- most at f8...

Doc Sharptail

I meant to get a few goose pics, but overnight they seem to have left except for a pair that swim right up apparently mooching food. SW

There are still a few geese around that are probably permanent residents. I've been taking a slice or two of bread for photo ops. Grabbed two buns from dinner yesterday and out we went. There's been a goose pretty much in the same spot every day. I thought it might be wounded, but no.

I thought it was too early for nests. Draw a line through that idea.

Once in the water, it did enjoy a bun and most of another. Of course, other geese had to see if they could get a bite, too.

Canon's contrast focusing system seems to work fairly well on geese- provided you are close enough.
The camera did well with the subject in motion.

I think they are already nesting here too- despite all the snow.
Last hen I saw about a week ago was really "showing".

Doc Sharptail

The nest was empty this morning... I hope coons didn't raid it, but that's been known to happen. A goose still came up to mooch a dinner roll, though.

And on the beach I found a nice small screwdriver about the right size for scope mount rings - not rusty at all. SW

They will hide their young in reeds, if the weather and water are warm enough.
I forget how long the nesting period is for the honkers.

Good luck with the screw-driver. Probably a good one.

Doc Sharptail

Lining up at the food bank.

Crop from image above.
At least half the people coming here are seniors, which is more than a little concerning.
From where I'm sitting, it looks like it's gonna get worse, before it gets any better.

Omand's Creek at high water last week.

Taken with the Nikkor P 105mm f2.5 at f5.6 and ISO 200.
It's been a while since this small creek has come up this high.
There is rain in the forecast for tomorrow, and the week-end.
I should make an attempt to get down to the floodway outlet for a few pictures before the water starts going down...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

high water - we seem to have hit that here and are receding , all of the gates on the dam were open last week , this week we are down to one , still a lot of flow but nothing like what those south on the mighty mississippi will see when it gets way south of here , no flooding here this year

How to irritate gulls:
Try focusing on their eyes with a 200mm lens at a distance of about 8 feet

First two photo's with the 50mm nikkor "H" F2 at f8
The last was with 200mm nikkor a/i-s F4 at f8.

This is the road into the old municipal dock at Selkirk where I have caught so many fish.
The temporary clay dike is about 8-10 feet high, and it is expected to be needed in 5 or 6 days time.

Image
From the marine museum at Selkirk.
Stern curvature on this suggests mid to late 40's Chris-Craft.

Image

It's power plant is a Chrysler Marine flat-head four cylinder.

I need to go back when I'm feeling a bit more perky and get some good angled shots of the old lake ships.

Doc Sharptail
