Out my back door friday a.m.

Image

These are a hybrid of domesticated pet bunny and railway jack rabbits.
They seem to be fairly prolific around here, and are well used to being around people.
They don't color phase for the seasons, and are probably easy prey for predators during winter.
At about 6 feet. ISO 64, f5.6 and 1/250 sec with the Nikkor "P" 105 f2.5.

Image

Not sure what this is.
Could not see any purple, so it's probably a starling.
Very loud song, and quite hyper active.
They simply don't sit still.
About 60 yds at a coffee shop parking lot.
Considerable crop here~ edging on about 85-90%.
The 105 again at ISO 64, f8 and 1/2500 sec.

i think i need to look out my back door in the morning , last time i looked there was snow on the ground and deer eating my ewes , the dog raised the alarm , they paid him no attention tho , but the wife and i enjoyed the sight till she realized they left piles of poop that the dog liked - now she wants me to cut back the ewes and do something to keep them out of the lawn , haw do you persuade 15 deer to stay in the neighbors lawns when they are hungry ?????????

I kind of like this.
Love the stark colors here, and the 200mm f4 nikkor a/i-s almost got complete focus.
ISO 200 and f8. I should have been using 400 with the heavy overcast. Shutter speed was about 1/125 sec.

A couple of views of Sturgeon Creek at high water.
The water is still coming up.
Crest on the Red R. is expected Sunday or so...

A shot of last night's blood moon.

ISO 1,250,000 1/90 sec at f8.
That ISO number is an actual setting on the D-810.
There are 4 higher settings, but they produce "banding" on the image.
Not so great for producing fine detail.
I'll get some more night stuff up later...

it was really cool to see , you got a great photo , but , did you see that fast moving straight line of lights in the opposite direction , both were impressive in the boat from the lake

Nope- viewed from the city.
There was a lot of cloud cover here to the east and south east.
We would have done better with the photo's out of town.

A bit of off-route 66.
This place has been closed for a while.
Decent grill burgers though.
Chances of someone taking it over are kind of low.

Night shot at ISO 8000.
1/2 sec at f4 with the 50mm nikkor 'H' f2 on tripod.
I think it would have been a bit sharper with lower ISO and electronic cable release.

Went out to pay Memorial Day respects this morning. After the fact, to be sure, but the
roads were finally dry. Saw tracks I'm sure glad I didn't leave!

Here's a shot of Chimney Rock from the nearby cemetery. I like early morning shadows. Flop Ears had fun annoying wabbits while I left flowers. SW

That camera is serving you quite well, despite the small sensor.
Quite a bit of good detail there.

Another wascally wabbit out the back door yesterday morning.
This one's actually pretty tiny.
Subject distance was just under 4 feet.
He ain't much bigger than my clenched fist.
Nikkor P 105mm f2.5 at ISO 100 and f5.6. 1/125 sec in the shade.

Image
The apple blossoms in the back lane finally opened- almost 3 weeks late.
There wasn't enough rain for them last year, and they did not make an appearance.

Image

Hefty crop of the image above showing the resolving power of this oldster.
105mm again, this time wide open at f2.5, ISO 100 and 1/80 sec.
This lens is becoming a quick favorite with me.

Image
Un-opened apple blossoms in good daylight with the same lens at f8 and 1/250 sec...

Image
Shatter resistant construction lamp.
Somebody's using a string of these for patio lights in their back yard.
105mm again at f5.6 and 1/125 sec.

Image

Another crop showing how much this lens likes small details.
I like this a lot.

Almost time to do a side by side 300mm test.
I'll wait for it to warm a bit.

Great detail with the glass! I've always struggled with that type. SW

Post subject:  Re: Some more local snaps

A couple of weeks ago, I found a set of Chinese mfg'd extension tubes in Nikon mount with all the appendages necessary to send an aperture signal to the D-810 camera.
It is also outfitted with the gold contacts and drive motor screws for auto-focus, which I likely won't be using.

I mounted a personal favorite lens on various combinations of the tubes.
The following (I think  ) was shot on the the 36mm tube by it's self with the Nikkor "H" 50mm f-2 lens aboard.
At ISO 400 and f8 with the pop-up flash on the camera firing. 1/250 sec.

Image

Male mosquito drying it's wings in the early morning sunshine.

Image

Image

Included are a couple of progressively tighter crops to show detail.

While this lens performed better than expected, it isn't really what it was made for.
Edge fall-off is evident at the extremities of the insect's legs on the first frame above.
I need to do some more work with this and the 55mm Micro Nikkor to see what I'm capable of.
The very short focus zone makes hand-held work with these tubes a bit of a challenge.

Image

There's a shot of the city skyline, and it is not all of it.
I'd need a 20mm or wider to get it all on one frame.
Taken with the 135mm Q at f8.
Heat distortion between the lens and focused subject was not something I was expecting out of a 135mm.
Taken at about 3-1/2, 4 miles from the downtown area.

Image

Crop of frame above.
Part of my old work is visible behind the erector crane at right in the cropped image.

Couple of urban spike whitetails down by Sturgeon Creek.

Looks like a 2 year old in foreground, and a 1 year old in back.

Image

The yearling caught in what should be a privacy moment- taking a dump.
Facial expression is totally "Do You Mind?!"
The shutter on the D-810 is very quiet...
Nikon series E 100mm f2.8 at f5.6 and ISO 800. 1/850 sec. for both frames.
Both are fairly heavy crops.

looks like my yard almost every day,

mostly Does,, and the kids, once and a while get a buck,

anywhere from 5 to a dozen,

when the scuppernong grape vine starts dropping grapes in the backyard, they show up several times a day

tart, and a bit seedy, but tasty
