You haven't iced up yet. Final passes ducks here were a lot of canvas-backs and blue-wing teal- all great eaters. We've been iced up for almost 2 weeks now. Frames look good so far. First appears to be from Raw by what's happening on my monitor here, which ain't a bad thing. If you are going to shoot a lot of Raw, you will need a high capacity card. I think 32 is the minimum. The 8 will fill up awfully fast on Raw. I'm still shooting jpegs for what I do. The full frame on the D-810 seems fine that way. I really should be shooting the important stuff on Raw, but seem to be doing o.k. for now. To put it into shooter's terms, you've gone from a .270 image area to a .320. 12 m/p is tons for a point and shoot, and I think you will do well with it. Build quality on it should be up a notch or 2 from the p&s's you are accustomed to. Your printed manual should become a close friend over the next little while. Congrats on the new to you camera! Nice buttes. Are they limestone or sandstone? Your circles look like Luna setting to me. She will flare if the back lit sky is bright enough. Long light rays like that can be tricky. A bit of noise at 1600- likely has to do with the size of the sensor. Great color for a Canon though. My Canon p&s's tend to render a bit colder than what is shown here. Auto white balance on these seem to be spot-on.... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Sandstone. Not much hardrock around here - maybe a little up by the Crow Butte uranium mine. I keep looking for a decent deer pic, but it's BP season now & they're staying out in the tall timber. Such as we have. The camera didn't come with a manual. I should probably buy one. From the good news dept, got the right battery charger today. Now to monkey around bouncing flash! SW |

https://camerausermanual.net/canon-powershot-g9-manual/ Give this one a try. I tried a quick look for the butkus version, but it doesn't appear to be on his site. It ain't a small one at + 270 pages. Let us know how you make out on this. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Got a little lucky with the deer yesterday. Beaudry provincial park, about 15-20 minutes west of town. D-810 with 200mm f4 Nikkor at f8, 1/800 sec, ISO 400. About an 85% crop. There's the original image. Full frame is definitely the way to go with this type of imagery. An APSC/DX sensor doesn't quite cut it at long distance crops. About 250 yds from the camera position. Nice deer. That'd be an eater. 2nd frame the flash is reflected in the deer's eyes Decent contrast, especially on the rock areas. Panatomic-X ! Been a while.... An Ansco folder would be interesting. Some of the earlier variants got American glass- mostly B&L. There may have been a variant with lens elements ground by Wollensak, but I ain't on firm ground with this. There is not much printed record on these. I really like the contrast that Panatomic X provided. You got a dusting of snow there. Ours is dry evaporating rapidly. I think there's gonna be more on the way... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

That Zuiko glass sure is sharp for a 135mm. Getting slight sepia tinging over here. Might be your scanner settings~ especially on the barn pic. I had briefly toyed with the idea of an OM-1 back in the day. I think it was the first "scaled down" 35mm SLR out of the gate. Went down to look at one, and there was not a lot of grip on the right hand side of the camera. The Nikon FE felt a lot better in my hands, so I ran with it. Keep 'em coming here. Interesting to say the least... I have to watch for a cheap scanner myself, and get some of the remaining neg files done... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

It's a Canon 9000F. I really like it except it can't scan 120 film. SW |

That must have taken some doing. Film looks like plus-x, which I never did the experimenting I wanted to do with it. It worked well for me with fine edge grain developers. I did want try it in perceptol/microphen, but never got that far. Should have been more patient with the from powder Kodak stuff. The one-shot speed developers had me after some tight deadlines I ran into quite early. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Doc, Good eye! I indeed used Plus-X for the shots. My close friend gave me the tail end of a can to use. Envelope containing the negs showed "Ansco folder +X" Watch for a PM. SW |

Not bad at all for a P&S! Looks like the camera selected wide-open aperture. Not much in the way of chromatic aberration here. Tiny bit of fringing on the magenta, which is by no means noticeable. It handles low contrast situations quite well, and is a bit warmer than the Canon experience I'm used to. Regards, Doc Sharptail |
