Good effect though. The diffusion enlarger is quite a bit temperature cooler at the carrier. I tried similar on a condenser head and almost melted the top negative. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Aftermath of a fire at the Ferndale apts. Nikkor 28mm f3.5 at 1/800 sec , f8, ISO 400. Times like this I am extremely glad not to be a fire fighter, and glad we have them... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Usual winter stuff here. I'm going to include a couple of crops, just to show what the film era 50mm f2 nikkor is capable of. All were taken at f8 and ISO 400 with the D-810. Maximum crop of the U.S. flag from the image above. Not too bad considering the distance from camera position- about 300 yds. More winter scenery. The cemetery sign is about 120 yds from the camera position. One more maximum crop. This I can definitely live with. I think I am headed in the right direction. The challenge is going to be wringing this performance out of my other film era nikkors... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Good detail on the distant sign! Did you lock up the mirror and use a cable release? SW |

I cropped all the edges to achieve the effect of just the butte (Scotts Bluff) and geese. There were a few lesser Canadas next pond over, but they recalled they were late for an appointment and left before I could line up a shot. They look like mallards in a tuxedo. I go out every day before sunrise - it's so peaceful then. Even when I was still railroading, I enjoyed the pre-dawn hour. Cond. snoring soundly - V-16 engine pumping out tons of hydrocarbons - it was very peaceful. If that makes any sense. SW |

Not my photo. Taken from the roof of the CBWT t.v. studios building this a.m. Looks like the whole works is gonna go. It's about 6 blocks from our place. There had been a night club in there I sometimes visited in much "headier" daze. What I'm really gonna miss is the "Sound Exchange" used music shop. He had titles in there more or less un-obtanium since the MCA records fire in L.A. I got introduced to some pretty obscure delta blues and early rockers in that place... There seems to be an inordinate number of fires in the city this winter. It's been very busy for the fire dept.... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Finally got an almost in-focus frame of this guy. A little red fox squirrel at -31C. His fur is puffed so far up, his ears can barely be seen. I think this is the varmint filling my air intake with soup crackers. Today he's eating oak leaf clusters, which is more in line with "normal" squirrel food Particle over his right paw is actually a flying oak cutting. They are quite the slobs while they are eating. Nikkor 200 f-4 at f8, 1/250 sec ISO 400. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

I can count whiskers so it turned out pretty well. I tried for another "sunrise honkies" pic this morning but got there 3 minutes too late. I meant to have geese backlit by a brilliantly colored sunrise, but as well you know, the sweet spot for sunrise color is fleeting at best. Compose the pic and... it was gone. Just like that. SW |

I have similar problems- especially with the rapid sunsets in late October, and later. One of the hardest things to do is capture those long sunrays before they dis-appear. Most times, I barely get time to focus, and bang- it's full dark... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

You are getting some decent color there. Looks like the cam is growing on you a bit. It's probably found a great home. Heavy snow-fall here again this a.m. If the roads ain't too bad, might have a look at the truckers at the Legislature later today. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

Mostly quiet here this a.m. I think temperatures are keeping this on the small side. There was a bit of trouble last night: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/hi ... d=msedgntp There were 3 people arrested in Ottawa last week on fire-arms charges related to the protest there. At least there were no incidents... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

something about protests ....seems to bring cockroaches out of the woodwork , no matter what side they are on , it has been so since the mid 60s for me - never seems to change , in the marches of the 60s , on the campuses of the 60s-70s , in the streets from then right through today , always someone with a poor idea of "peaceful" |

A bit more activity here today. It hasn't been so bitterly cold. There's a few wandering around on foot. Access is pretty bad, and I'm still worried about the camera getting cold enough to form condensation on the sensor. Both taken with the Nikkor 300 f4.5 and ISO 320. f5.6 for the first, and f4.5 for the second... Regards, Doc Sharptail |
