Got a full moon low on the horizon with little in the way of atmospheric interference.
About 4 a.m. this morning.

Big surprise here was the Nikkor P 105mm f2.5.
At ISO 400 here, and f-11 and 1/250 sec.

Image

300mm f4.5 H Nikkor at f8 and 1/250 sec.

Image

500mm Tamron "B" mirror at f8 and 1/250 sec.

The Tamron focuses well past infinity, which is a plus for this kind of thing.

All images were taken hand-held with me bracing against the bars of a wrought iron fence.

I think these would all be a great deal sharper (especially the Tamron) off a tri-pod and electronic release...

I can't quite get over the performance of the 105mm Nikkor.
That is truly impressive for what's considered by most a "portrait" lens.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

If I can get up again tonight, I'll try with the tripod and electric release.

That is interesting. It looks a bit like the incomplete stitching that NASA releases from time to time.
Tell us a bit how this image was made.

Doc Sharptail

....I could fill up a website with the pics I've taken,so I wont flood the pages here :rotflma: ....besides its kinda a a pain uploading one at a time onto here :lol .....but here's a few planetary ones (again you can tell the ones under poorer air conditions vs better)....will be taking new Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in the next month or 2...this year they will ride much higher in the sky which bodes for steadier air...last few years theyve been very low above the horizon...only10-15 degrees...not good :-?

That's some interesting imagery alright.
It almost looks like ice formations on some of your lunar surface frames.

I think I'm doing as well as I'd be able to with the equipment I have:
A full frame DSLR, and my longest lens is a mirror.
It's a 500mm 55BBAR 5B f8.
I need to discipline myself to get back onto the tripod, and start learning to use live view for focusing.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

im seeing faces in those first two shots - thats a bit scary on a level i cant say ive experienced before , marvelous shots mario , ive loved you art in the past as well , i bet some of the new members might enjoy that in another thread if you have time down the road , i have not tried to chezx out the archives to see what we might have left but i remember some real fun [intricate work] on your part in days past that i did really appreciate seeing ,

im inspired by the infux of new faces here and think they need to know how great it once was here , back in the day we had a lot of interesting content here , i think it could be that way again should we be able to inspire more participation , i also miss your posts a lot , :jmp:
