this is part of the Confederate section , Pecan's ex husband has kin that was in one of the hospital's in RVA during the Civil War and passed,
his grave is not marked, but if I remember correctly, this is the likely area he was buried

the CW graves are mostly in one section, and if the family coughed up the cash, or found where you were laid to rest, you got a nice stone, if not, then all that was known is that you were in section A, or B etc etc, that was marked with a small granite square on the corner,

surely this guy is a relative, my mother is a Thompson, and he oldest Brother is Samuel,
guessing this guy is a cousin many times removed,

ETA, my Thompson kin folks are VA residents, however Halifax county is on the VA\NC border, so the family is in both states

those are great photos , ive always found history fascinating and particularly this era - may i assume that stuart was jeb not jimmy ? im a fan of both but i suspect jimmy has a bigger stone in hollywoods forest lawn , BTW i did no research of either for this post so my quesytion is an honest one ,

one of my favorite memories of touring the battlefields as a teen was Manassas , what a great place to get the real feel of it all in a well presented and superbly manicured setting , far better than most any other ive ever visited and ive been to a lot of them ,

I have a few albums of pics from the Hunley Funeral and also from various Cemetery's in Charleston and Savannah, but they are not digital,



I have not been to Manassas, have been to most here in the RVA area as well as The Crater,

did the 150th, and supported Wpnsman's group that marched into Appomattox,

been to most of the Rev War sites here in VA, that is more my interest

most that were not known, were not marked or just had a plain small granite stone

one fall day we decided to venture out to the Cemetery, probably a Sunday,
I think I was roaming around looking for a grave marker for Pecan's ex,
I may have mentioned he has kin that is buried here, but never found a marked grave

so as I am wandering, Nikon in hand, the Mrs decided to take a break on the hillside near that Sugar Maple,

I believe this is early 1800's.
Limestone tablet type headstones with the markings completely weathered away.
St. Andrew's parish cemetery.
Nikon D-810 and Tamron 500 B f8.
Interesting story, whatever it was.
I like to think this was a married couple, but who knows?

White-tail deer last spring, in the Military section at Brookside cemetery.
The size of this Military section defies comprehension.
