Yesterday's Weapons Forums

I took Ed the black blab for a hike this morning - but not too far as the temp is +8. It snowed a lick yesterday which gave the buttes a nice contrast & I took several pics with my bottom end digicam... only one of which amounted to anything.

In the foreground is Gering, Nebr pop. around 7500. Behind is shown a few buttes. The largest is a national monument with a very nice hiking trail. Too many people for me, though so I hike in the public hunting areas.

Within a 10 mile radius of my driveway are parking areas for at least 15,000 acres of buttes. Bighorn sheep - deer - coyotes too numerous to mention and a mountain lion or 2.

And turkeys! 8)

I have some MUCH better pics in my real camera & will post same when I get the roll developed. I'm saving the last few shots for the french Deadeteau if the deal actually happens. We will see. SW

Well, this is the halfway scenic part. This is south of town & about 5 miles north is open prairie pretty much all the way to Canada - several hundred miles of nuttin but nuttin. Except cattle & a FEW trees every 20 miles or so where a homestead used to be.

I see pics of the Netherlands & think to myself how cool it is, but this is home & I just would not be happy anywhere else.

I likes my solitude & quiet. Fewer people is better! SW

Here's another pic of the buttes in a rip-snorter of a snow storm. My cheep camera doesn't convey a very good feeling of the 3 mile hike back to the parking lot walking against the wind.

Saw some deer with their butts to the storm. Some of the birds like grouse will get behind a soapweed or sage brush & face it all crouched down so their feathers will still hold their body heat.

Okay,I would a lot rather have been sitting before brightly burning logs in the family room fireplace, but there is a certain raw beauty to a storm like this.

Ahhhhh.... fresh air. More is better!!! 8) SW

Went out this morning & still +15 degrees. No lurkeys- saw a couple deer... snow still too deep for a good hike so me & Ed played toss the stick... he won. SW

Wow, what a beautiful scenery SW.
