Many years ago, there was a highway not far from where I found this. Not paved and pretty rugged country through the buttes, so eventually, the road was moved about a mile west. The old roadway and several thousand acres were made into public hunting. Where I take the mutts early in the AM when I'm home.

Nothing like tearing around in the buttes to calm the idiots down for the rest of the day!

I happened to find this old bottle about 75 yards from the actual abandoned roadway. Tossed from a speeding car, no doubt. No clues to what flavor the pop might have been. I've never heard of Sky Hi Pop before, and Ft. Collins isn't that far from here - 150 miles maybe.

It doesn't show up well in the pic how it's starting to turn the light lavender color of old glass. Kinda neat, I thought. All those years & no one saw it before. The wording doesn't show up too well since my camera is so cheep - no ingredients listed - just shows the bottle belongs to the bottling company in Ft Collins, Colo.

About a month ago, I found the remains of an old DeSoto sedan at the bottom of a canyon. It's so far from the old road, I think some rancher drug it out there. I meant to take off the DeSoto emblem & send it to a friend that he could make it into a fridge or gun safe magnet, but it was too badly broken. SW

Good google-fu as always! I looked around fleabay & see there isn't much demand for old pop bottles. Ten busks seems to be the going money.

Concerning how it remained intact all these years, the glass is VERY thick and I suspect tempered. I'm guessing it's from the 50s & folks still built stuff to last then.

In grade school, we went on a field trip to a pop bottling plant & I recall how the returned bottles were cleaned with strong blasts of steam.

The glass is so thick, I think you'd really have to place your shot with a 22 to break it.

So I'll probably just stow it on a junque shelf in the basement... unless one of you folks might like it for a souvenir of days gone by. SW
