Does anybody know what the factory loading, powder/bullet combination, was for the John Wayne commemorative .32-40's? The ones with the "Duke" headstamp?

I have one box with 17 rounds and another 15 loose rounds, but they have a handwritten note saying "reloads, lively" I'd like to reload them to the original specs. Just 'cuz.

I don't know the 'Duke' specs but I can give you quite the write up out of Ken Waters' Pet Loads if you want. I like the 32-40. Got an old Savage Saddle Gun that is chambered fer it

For 32-40 I mostly used hard cast over AA5744. I had one old Marlin M93 with a badly worn barrel - it shot fairly well with .323 8mm boolets. I've only got one now - a special order take down w/ 30" barrel. It's too valuable to shoot. SW

the 32-40 is a pretty long round. The cylinder would be huge!!! I could see it in a revolving rifle maybe

KimFella,

The files for the 32-40 reloading can be found below. They are rather large picture files which were sent to me by TexasPete before his passing. I left them large so you can download them and print.

Keep in mind that the article was written in 1972, but Ken Waters was really good at reloading and wringing accuracy out of different cartridges

Regards,

Bruce

The 'Tube' is a Malcolm from Leatherwood. I hear good things about them.

And to add more fun into the mix, there are folks who do 'duplex' loads for the 32-40, a mix of smokeless & BP. I had tried the BP loads in my 1899 lever and won't do that again......clean-up sux!!!! I would use them again if I had a single shot like my 38-55 Buffalo Target. I have an old top break shotgun that I was thinking of having a smith convert to a 32-40 rifle.

Magnum Research Inc makes BFR revolvers in 30 30 and 45/70 plus others. If nothing else check with them and see if they would make you one on get a 30/30 and rechamber/rebarrel to 32-40.
