Is there some magic incantation I need to use to get this thing back on? I've tried lifting the gate tip out of the port so the screw hole lies flat against the receiver screw hole and even carved a wooden 'finger' to press it flush and tried, and tried and cursed and tried again. Most of the time I can't get the screw to even start, but a few times it would start but just pop free when I tried to lower the tip of the gate back into the port.
:-( I'm tempted to drill a hole through the opposite side of the receiver and use a long screw through there to start and hold it until I can get the proper screw started. :-(
Is there some special tool the secret cabal of gunsmiths know about that aligns this spring so that the screw will start properly?

Loading gate re-installation @ 13:50. Maybe a little simplistic, but don't give up! On a future try, it will fall into place. In the past when I've become frustrated, I would set the project aside and do something else for a day or two.

I used to have a small gun repair shop where I did stuff like this for friends & learned over the years to be patient. Easier said than done! If we lived a little closer, you could bring it over & we would do the deal in an hour. SW

Interesting! The video shows the gate being replaced AFTER all the other guts are replaced. I was trying to do it with the guts removed. J.B. Wood's Firearms Assembly/Disassembly says assembly is mostly just the reverse order of disassembly, and shows the loading gate removal after almost everything else except the carrier spring and cartridge guides (step 21 of 25). I'll have to go downstairs now and reassemble in the order in the video. Maybe the loading block and trigger assembly etc. will hold the end in place better than my finger (actually the wooden 'finger' I made was supposed to rest in the loading block grooves).

In another, completely unrelated, vein, between the time I first read your reply NebrHogger, and now, a courier arrived with a package from Titan Reloading...which included a #17 shell holder! NOW I can finally get on with priming my 8mm Lebel cases so I can fireform them to .41 Swiss! Got 19 of 20 .348's done recently and reloaded them ready to go, but the range was closed yesterday. I'll have to wait til next Sunday the try them. :D :D

Edit: (an hour later) Yeah. That didn't work. I'm beginning to think I may not really need a Win 94 in .30 WCF :-(

Yeah. Still no joy. I've tried a couple of more times, with all the guts in and with them out. Still can't get it. I'll have to take it to a gunsmith. Maybe get it re-blued at the same time. Maybe. :-(
