Took my Plainsman to the range today. Tried firing about 3 or times, for about 3 or 4 caps before one went off. (took 3 shots and gave up. 9 - 12 caps for 3 shots seemed a bit excessive). When I got home I tried a couple of caps from each tin (2 CCI and 3 Remington) in a revolver. Every one went off (I'll wait an hour or so and then see if I can pry Scarlett out from under the bed. When someone says "That dog won't hunt" just think of her. ) What did the old-time mountain men do to get the caps to fire first time every time? Keep a supply warm in their jockstraps? Or just hunt with a Bowie knife until spring? |

"....Thanks. That location might be a bit safer than the one I opined ...." ya don't want an accidental discharge in that region |

Tried again today (even colder) and kept the caps in my shirt pocket over my heart. Nope. 4 tries to get one cap to fire. Maybe as I get older my body doesn't produce as much heat? Maybe I just need to melt my One of the club members said the 209 caps were hotter. ??Maybe I can unscrew the percussion nipple from the tumbler and replace it with a pocket to receive a 209 primer?? Or maybe I can just wait til spring. (probably smarter. and safer.) |

Try replacing the nipple. The hammer dropping fast enough? The cold should not effect the caps. I suspect a weak hammer spring. |
