I was looking for a period correct scout scope for my 1892 but everything seems to mount right over the ejection port. My son suggested trying a tang mounted peep sight, and wouldn't you know it there was one on a Huskvarna I wanted rid of!
However I can't move it from the rest position. That big knob has to push, pull or turn to let the sight be pushed into the upright position.

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? Push the knob in? Pull it out? Turn it?
I've got it soaking in oil and if that doesn't loosen it I'll try a heat gun on it.
I can't find any marking on it. Does anyone know what make and model it is?
And not that I need to know, but how do you take it apart? The 'ladder screw' looks as if it is a captured screw. Would the knob turn off that screw?

I'd pass on mounting a B-4 on a 44-40. A J-4, or J-2.5 would be more in line a bit with the mild recoil...

The B series have some of the lens cells directly mounted on the inside of the tube. Add in the 60+ year old Canadian balsam that holds the cells together, and the risk of failure rises.

I like tang mounted peeps myself. The closer the peep is to the eye, the better. There was a repro series put out by Stoeger for the Rossi clone of the 62 about 15 years ago, and I got one for my "90/06" .22 pump. It was a direct fit. Can't recall if the 92 and 1890 share the same tang screw spacing....

I'd look for an easier to mount tang sight myself. I'm aware of pricing on these- especially on CGN. Wryly enough, these sights don't seem to sell.

Doc Sharptail

Idea for replacement tiny ball bearing... carburetor kits have various size tiny ball bearings. If you know a gear head you could ask for same in their parts pile. Also from your usual mechanic.

Savage bolt action extractors used to be held in place by a small ball bearing with detent under the extractor proper. (maybe still are) I lost mine when the spring behind it launched same across the room never to be seen or heard of again. A friend found one for me in his box of used carb parts.

Plan B... carefully vacuum the room where you lost it - then run a strong magnet through the dust bunnies. That trick has worked for me in the past. SW

Yes it is an extract from the Balsam tree. For a lot of years it was the only adhesive clear enough for optical use.

It has a tendency to cloud when it takes impact for which it wasn't designed.
It was not until the late 50's that suitable improved synthetics were developed.
