The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username. I have a .45cal single shot Pirate-type pistol, caplock. I need advice on how much powder to use. I have FF Goex, Pistol Pyrodex, Shockleys' Gold for powders. I will be shooting a pre-lubed 200gr lead bullet. Randy

Nearest I can find is from the Lyman BP Handbook
It lists a 190 gr conical # 45467
And the test pistol a Ruger Revolver 7-1/2 barrel
Not sure of the strength rating on your pistol

FFG 25 gr 710 FPS 212 Ft/Lbs of ME
FFG 33 gr 780 FPS 256 Ft/Lbs of ME

FFFG 25 gr 674 FPS 191 Ft/Lbs of ME
FFFG 33 gr 709 FPS 211 Ft/Lbs of ME

FFFFG 25.5 gr 841 FPS 297 Ft/Lbs of ME
FFFFG 34 gr 898 FPS 339 Ft/Lbs of ME

Thanks Bruce, at first I was gonna use 1 pellet @ 50grs. but thought to ask advice first. I'll go with 25grs FFG Goex, that'll get the bullet downrange! Still working on the smoothbore, I'm getting 12" patterns at 50yds, gotta close it up some.

What size bore/ball/patch on the smoothbore?

try different thickness of patch, dia. of ball & lube recipe & play around till you find one that works. Some have found that a bare ball coated in alox works better than patched ball. Gotta play around to see what yours like best

Part of this problem has to do with my set triggers not working properly. The rear didn't work at all, leaving me with a very heavy pull, taking me off target. It's been taken care of now and I expect better results next time.

Hi, the 12" groups were shot with the smoothbore musket, I haven't shot the pistol yet, the pistol is rifled, Heck, it may do as well!
