heres my question ,

what rifle do you think i should buy - ill preface it by saying im going with 45LC ,

i found a henry 'big boy' - i like it , but it loads at the muzzle end , im hoping i dont need to reload at any point , i think id loose a lot of time with that , i like the brass look , and based on my yellow boy 22cal i think id like this one ,

i also found a marlin 1894 'cowboy' - it loads at the receiver gate , its a good solid rifle , im not as fond of the lever shape on this one , but based on my 39 mountie 22 cal i think it would be fine ,

and then there is the chaperels -
an 1866 cowboy , and an 1866 winchester yellow boy , both the repros that get good words from some ive spoken to ,

i cant decide ......im leaning to the henry tonight , but i was leaning to the marlin this morning , i think i need to get more data , id buy em all ifin i had the cash , but i dont -i cant- i need to settle on one quickly ,

anyone care to throw your 2 cents in for my consideration ?

I've had the brass 1866s and while I like them, when shooting rapidly, the lifter will bind and sometimes jamb if that would be an issue.

New ( not old) Marlins will also jamb under certain conditions. A friend at work does the cowpie shooting bit and has good luck with a Rossi 357/38 I slicked up for him.

I think it would be fun but can't get into the whole costume thing. SW

Oh boy are you going to have fun!! Rusty Spur was my nickname way back when. The out fit is simple at first go to a costume shop or a thrift store. I found all but my hat and boots at a thrift store.

And don't go all out on the guns either even the simple inexpensive ones will work for you and as SW said they can be slicked up to work fine.

I found that all the folks weather they spent big or little for the guns they still had them "tuned up" a bit to fit their liking. I got out of it when my first was born and they changed all the shoots to Sundays and that's not a good day for me to be out playing.

Most of the guys I know went the 38 special way for cost reason's. There sure is alot of 38 wad cutters out there for practicing!

ended up with the rossi for my rifle , and a taurus 51/2" and a cimmaron 41/2" for my revolvers with galco 1880 leather - belt , strong side and crossdraw , i got good deals on all of it , and ill keep them even if i quit the cowboy shoots ,

i found cases , primers , bullets and powder , have three friends that help with the reloading and i bought the dies and shell holder , have 250+ loaded and ready

gonna use my stevens double for the shotgun for now

Getting into some of these competitions can get rather pricey.
