Post subject:  Barrel resonance & barrel bands

Does anyone know if there is a simple formula/calculation to determine where to hold the barrel to the stock?

My Morris Short has an obvious addition, looking like the pump handle/grip on a pump action. It is screwed into the thin steel barrel band immediately in front of the rear sights and covers the (empty) hole where the bolt should be that holds the stock to the barrel. I'm just getting started designing a new stock, adding a couple of inches to bring it right to the muzzle, and adding some kind of schaubel. With the schnaubel I won't be able to use the old barrel bands that just slip over the stock. And I'm wondering if I need anything to secure the stock to the barrel, other than that little bolt just forward of the chamber. If I do, it would probably have to be a nut soldered to the bottom of the barrel and a bolt running through the stock into it ... same effect as the existing fastening by the chamber, except added onto the barrel, rather than drilled into it.

Would I need this, or should I just let the barrel "float"? And where should it go? The barrel (including the chamber) is 22". The existing bolt hole and barrel bands are at 3/4", 4 1/4" and 19 1/2".
