this is a US trainer , made by winchester , called the 'winder-musket'

its a model 87 low wall 22cal short version of the winchester 1887 , one of 11,400 of the military contract of 1918-19 , it was replaced by the M1922 trainers , ive wanted one for a long time but didnt know enough about them to select wisely till recently ,











ive not shot it , but i will , and i need to figure out my cabinet to display it , but first i must figure out which sling to get for it - im leaning to the M1907 , but i think it might have had a krag/trapdoor sling since it was a trainer

Falling block or rolling block, no finer rifle made. Well, except a trapdoor.
That's one fine looking shooting iron A square.

That is one of the finest little treasures I've seen. ALL of the .22's are sweet, but that one is a real treat.

Found out that the British also used the Winder Musket, probably be a good idea to keep an eye open for British acceptance stamps. Could mean an increase in value, or at least be an excuse to buy another one.
