The Model 38 is a post WWI version of the Model 32. It handles short, long, and long rifle, without internal adjustments!WOW!....The magazine holds 15 shorts, 12 longs, or 10 long rifles. Solid top closed frame, slide action that provides those quick follow up shots on pesky varmints or or vermen~ The length overall is 40 inches, and when taken down, 27 3/4". LOP is 13 1/2". Black walnut pistol grip buttstock was standard, with a grooved forearm. Blued Marlin finish was standard, butt/plate of hard rubber, embossed with the marlin symbol. The magazine tube will be seen with the older latch-type release, with a new-improved button release patented june 1,1926. Round barrel, and octagon barreled models are seen, as some full length magazines, and Lyman tang sights(*sigh*).
NOW for the weird things~
Marlin-Rockwell Corp did intend to return to the manufacture of sporting firearms after the wrap up of WWI arms production. The change from Model 32 to Model 38 seemed to be a choice of the Marlin-Rockwell people, rather than the Marlin Firearms Corp! The Model 38 I have and show you here, is marked, Marlin-Rockwell Corp, New Haven Conn. the RECORED Low/High serial numbers are 782/10,938. Mine happens to fall BELOW William Brophy's book on Marlin~:p
this seems to sugguest this was a 'parts bin' rifle, one that the company just made and put out w/o recording...wonder how many others are out there????
Now IF i had a Swebilius rear sight, and a Lyman tang sight....it would be heavenly~~~:eek
The grand price for this rifle was $26.50 in 1922(jan.) and was reduced to $21.50 in June of that year.
P.S.this was a gift from a very dear friend, it will never leave this family!~thanks ol 5thdragoons!
Now for the goodies:
