The only semi's legal to hunt with in PA are shotguns for small game. They must be plugged to only hold three rounds total. No semis for big game such as Deer.

Forgot to add that he has at least $200 saved. I have been checking the gun auction sites and doing some pricing. I see things have gone up a little since I purchased my Remington 572.

Dave, I'm also a lefty and I would advise you to buy a bolt. The sooner your son becomes acustomed to it, he will work it as well as a righty (if a little slower). Pumps and levers are not conducive to the best accuracy - he can play with shooting speed later.

Ethan is kind of a hybird. He throws right and bats right, but shoots and writes lefty.

Any of the bolt actions better than others?

my daughter is the same way , seems almost ambidextrous but there are certain things she 'has' to do left , id advise working it out to try a couple at the range and see what he likes - nothing worse than the frustration of something you just cant get to work , it could kill the interest if it builds too high , its worth the effort to borrow some and see ,

Well he made his decision and bought a Marlin Glenfield model 25. We also picked up a scope and rings. He is a happy camper and it shoots great. :)

Most shooters, if they shoot 'lefty'; is because the left eye is dominant. If he can learn to do either, it is best he shoot righty. Those leftys that find they physically can switch left to right easily in doing physical things, still would benefit to learn to shoot righty if they can learn to use that right eye. You can't change the dominance, but you can learn to do things the other way.

I do want to add that I have been working a little with my son to try shooting right handed. It has not been pretty. The target looked like it had been shot with a shot gun. I am just going to leave well enough alone. Actually since he trows right handed, it is not that awkward for him to work the bolt with that hand.

A friend who's a lefty has no problem working a right handed .22 bolt with his left hand without taking the gun from his shoulder.
He just reaches over the comb, he makes it look easy anyway.

When looking for a high powered rifle he found this manuver less easy. But I fixed him up with a Enfield No.1 and the low comb and drop at heel, coupled with short slick bolt throw, suited his style well.

The scope on the rifle shown might get in the way though.
